Hormones are chemical messengers that control all of the body's processes, including growth, reproduction, and metabolism. Hormones are produced by glands such as the thyroid, adrenal glands, pituitary gland, ovaries, testes, and pancreas.
Hormones differ between men and women.The amount of each hormone in our bodies fluctuates throughout a lifetime—and can change depending on our age, weight, diet and exercise habits, medical conditions, medications we take (including birth control pills), family history of disease...the list goes on!
There are several different types of hormones in both men and women: estrogen, testosterone, progesterone and cortisol, among others. Imbalances in these hormones can lead to a variety of health issues including weight gain or loss; mood swings; trouble sleeping; misunderstandings or arguments with your partner, friends or family, etc.
Our hormones play such a huge role in our relationships with humans. As you listen to our podcast we hope you can take away the understanding of our hormones to help you have a healthier relationship with your partner, friends and family in your life.

STACY T. SIMS, MSC, PHD, is a forward-thinking international exercise physiologist and nutrition scientist who aims to revolutionize exercise nutrition and performance for women. She has directed research programs at Stanford, AUT University, and the University of Waikato, focusing on female athlete health and performance and pushing the dogma to improve research on all women.
Dr.Sims has a famous TEDx talk called “Women Are Not Small Men”. She has published over 70 peer-reviewed papers, several books and is a regularly featured speaker at professional and academic conferences, including those by USOC and USA Cycling.
Dr.Sims also has her own business (www.drstacysims.com) where she creates and delivers online learning material focused on women training with their physiology across the lifespan. She has two books: ROAR and Next Level to help women navigate exercise in this male dominant industry.
On this weeks episode we invite Dr.Stacy Sims. She helps us highlight the importance of looking at women differently than men, knowing their unique body and physiology so we don’t compare. Dr.Amanda Olson earned her Bachelor of Science degree from Pacific University, and a Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy from Regis University, graduating as a member of the Jesuit National Honor Society. She is holds a Certification of Achievement in pelvic floor physical therapy (CAPP-PF) from the American Physical Therapy Association, and the Pelvic Floor Practitioner Certification (PRPC) through the Herman and Wallace Pelvic Institute. She is also a certified Stott Pilates instructor and RRCA certified running coach.
She is the president and chief clinical officer of Intimate Rose where she develops pelvic health products and education. She is passionate about empowering women and men with pelvic health issues including pelvic pain, incontinence, pregnancy, and post-partum issues.
Dr. Olson teaches internationally on various pelvic health topics including pelvic floor dysfunction in runners. She has written newspaper and magazine articles on pelvic floor dysfunction, and running and also authored the book Restoring the Pelvic Floor For Women.
